The University of Allahabad, informally known also as Allahabad University is a public central university located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.It is one of the oldest universities established in the Indian subcontinent which primarily uses English as it medium of instruction. Its origins lie in the Muir Central College, named after Lt. Governor of North-Western Provinces, Sir William Muir in 1876, who suggested the idea of a Central University at Allahabad, which later evolved to the present university. At one point it was called the "Oxford of the East".

The Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, spread over 2,700 acres (11 km),hosts the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agriculture Science Centre) and is located in Barkachha in Mirzapur district, about 60 km (37 mi) from Banaras.

Purvanchal University Jaunpur renamed as Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in the honour of late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh former Chief Minister of the state was established on 2nd October 1987 as an affiliating university under U.P. state university act 1973. Sampurnanand Sanskrit University
Sampurnanand Sanskrit University is an Asian institution of higher learning located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, specialized in the study of Sanskrit and related fields.In 1857, the college began postgraduate teaching. The examination system was adopted in 1880. In 1894, the famous Saraswati Bhavan Granthalaya building was built, where thousands of manuscripts are preserved to this today. These manuscripts have been edited by the principal of the college and published in book form. More than 400 books have been published in a series known as Sarasvati Bhavana.
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, formerly Avadh University, is a public university located at Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. The University is named after Ram Manohar Lohia an Indian freedom fighter and a socialist political leader. The university was established in 1975 as an affiliating university, and assumed residential university functions in 1984.
